What is autopilot email?

Autopilot email is a mode in which an AI agent sends replies on its own, without a person approving each one, usually only when it is confident in the draft.

Autopilot is the opposite end of the scale from co-pilot drafting. In co-pilot, the AI writes and a person sends. In autopilot, the AI writes and sends, and a person looks at the exceptions.

What makes autopilot safe to use

Unattended sending is only as safe as the checks around it. The ones that matter are a confidence threshold, so unsure drafts are held back; a rule that autopilot has to be earned on real email before it can be switched on; send caps, so a mistake cannot repeat at volume; protection against reply loops with other automated senders; and a clear record of what was sent and why.

It also helps to scope autopilot narrowly. Questions with one right answer that is written down, such as opening hours or a return policy, suit it. Complaints, exceptions, and anything that needs a lookup do not.

Autopilot in inboxr

In inboxr, autopilot is set per mailbox and is locked until that mailbox has enough clean approvals, meaning drafts sent without edits. Once on, only drafts at or above your confidence threshold send automatically. The rest go to the review queue. You can limit automatic sending to set days and hours, and you can switch a mailbox back to co-pilot at any time.
