What is a shared inbox?

A shared inbox is an email address, such as support@ or sales@, that several people read and reply from instead of one person owning it.

Shared inboxes let a team present one address to customers while spreading the work across several people. They are common for support, sales, billing, and general enquiries.

Where shared inboxes go wrong

The usual problems are ownership and consistency. Two people answer the same email, or nobody does because each assumed someone else would. Replies vary in tone and accuracy depending on who wrote them. And there is often no easy record of who sent what.

Teams deal with this through clear rules about who handles which kind of message, shared written answers for common questions, and tools that show what has been handled.

Shared inboxes and inboxr

inboxr is not a shared-inbox client: it does not replace your email app or assign conversations to people. It connects to a shared address as a mailbox and drafts a reply to each new email from one knowledge base, so answers stay consistent whoever approves them. Team members with access work from the same review queue, the Sent tab shows whether a person or autopilot sent each reply, and an activity log records who did what. Plans are priced by mailbox, with a set number of team seats included.
